XB-70 Aesthetics

I do not know nor
May I ever know
Mach 3 at 70,000 feet
But I approve it
Just the same
As falling in Love
With a good-looking
Blonde who shines
Bright as a Valkyrie
Sent by the gods
To drag the dead away.
"Do you believe in Love
At first sight?"
"Yes," Ringo sang,
"I'm certain
That it happens
All the time."

The stall-speed must be ridiculously low.

This is great, I like your blog and the prose poem beneath is um .. exhilarating!

Timeshadows: That suggests an interesting question. It is my understanding that aircraft with canards have enhanced slow flight characteristics, and I'm curious to know why the engineers decided put a canard on the XB-70? So it could fly more slowly than otherwise for landing? Good enough reason, but one wonders about the other end of the envelope, and after all this aircraft was ALL about that other end of the envelope. That is, how does the canard influence things in hypersonic flight?

Thanks, SOS!

Ultimately, though, as we all know from experience, canards just won't fly . . .
