simply . . . WOW

I agree, the WOW factor is an important dynamic in this short film. But here there is more than meets the eye: First, the experimental element--the director's interest in creating precise effects through composition and careful, selective editing. Second, the setting, of course, which I really must run down. Where was this filmed--somewhere in Mexico, but where and what are these amazing sculptures? Third, I am impressed (as usual) by Raquel Welche's talent. While she is a beautiful woman she is by no means a "great" dancer; but in everything I've seen her in she nevertheless manages to create something interesting. And her movements in this video are in fact interesting and worth examining. She is good at lots of things, and this "Renaissance" characteristic is always interesting to discover in an artist, actress, writer, and so on.

I understand that the sculptures were left over from the 1968 Mexico Olympics. An ideal backdrop for Ms Welch's cosmic gyrations. For me, it is reminiscent of 'Chariots of the Gods'. I love all this Space Age lounge culture.

Thanks, Mike, for the lead.

I did a little searching and found some more information on the project, which is called the Ruta de la Amistad (the Route of Friendship). The World Monuments Fund is helping restore these sculptures.
