Scientific Method and Philosophic Response... be sure to draw distinctions

In The Blue Book (p.18) Wittgenstein writes:
Philosophers constantly see the method of science before their eyes, and are irresistibly tempted to ask and answer questions in the way science does. This tendency is the real source of metaphysics, and leads the philosopher into complete darkness.
The point underscores a "political shift" in philosophy--a shift that often goes unrecognized--when philosophers move into discussions of ethics, political philosophy and the philosophy of history.
